Avocado Mash

It's time for another snack idea!

This week I was inspired to write about avocado because of a study I read in my nutrition class. The study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, showed how incorporating an avocado a day can lower LDL (the bad cholesterol) levels over the course of several weeks in individuals with normal American diets. Seeing as heart disease is the leading cause of death in the nation, being able to turn around your heart health with something so simple is pretty big news! Avocados are full of all those good unsaturated fats, inflammatory benefits, fiber, vitamin K, C, and E, as well as folate. Sounds like a super food to me!

This avocado mash is one of my favorite go-to snacks. Super simple and you might already have all the ingredients to make it.

What you need:
- 1 ripe avocado
- Balsamic vinegar or Red Wine vinegar
- Creole seasoning (I use the Tony Chachere's brand)
- Whole grain bread

Carve out the inside of the avocado and put it into a bowl to mash. Sprinkle a little bit of the creole seasoning and add about a teaspoon (more or less according to taste preference) of Balsamic vinegar in with the avocado. Mash together.

I like to toast my bread because all the chunks of flaxseed get nice and nutty tasting. Voila!

This works well as a replacement for mayonnaise on a sandwich or you can make it in larger batches as a dip for pita chips too!
